He's
known as the "Million Dollar Guy." In a recent blog post, Jason
Calacanis said that he expects to receive a million dollars from AdSense
in the coming year.
If that
number doesn't jolt you awake and make you sit on the edge of your seat,
consider this: he got to this point in less than a year. His business
only began using AdSense in September of 2004.
Calacanis
runs Weblogs Inc., a network dedicated to creating trade weblogs across
niche industries. And hes quickly proven that AdSense is a credible
advertising partner.
Their AdSense revenue has
increased as their network has expanded. They made an average of $580 a
day in January 2005. It was $737 in March. It was $1,585 in May. They
made $2,335 one day in July, just before he wrote the blog entry
mentioned above. Keep in mind that this is just for one day. If they can
increase the daily average to $2,740, they can raise $1 million in a
year. And, according to Calacanis, making $3,000 or $5,000 a day is not
out of the question.
Thats quite an
achievement. Keep in mind that Calacanis has 103 bloggers on the payroll
and nine staffers. Even so, many webmasters would give an arm or a leg
to have even a third of that.
Googles AdSense
has been revolutionary. It has become firmly established as the darling
of the online advertising industry. Although rumors are heard of major
competitors launching a similar service, AdSenses premier position seems
secure for now.
In other words, AdSense has
made it possible for almost anyone with a website or blog to make money
from advertising without having to hire salespeople or waste time
looking for advertisers.
This is how AdSense functions. In just a few minutes, webmasters can create an account.
They
will be given a small piece of code to paste into their web pages.
Google will then display ads that are important to the content on the
webmaster's pages automatically. The webmaster receives a commission
when a visitor to his or her site clicks on one of Google's AdSense
advertisements. Advertisers can pay anywhere from five cents to $100 per
click, with the webmaster receiving a percentage of the revenue. a
percentage of that fee.
Many
webmasters are content with earning five to ten dollars from AdSense to
cover the cost of web hosting. But many, unsurprising, have higher
ambitions. At a popular WebmasterWorld forum, participants share tips
and encouragement on reaching a goal of $300 per day from AdSense. So it
is no wonder that Calacanis created quite a buzz when he made his
million dollar blog entry.
Google has once
again shown their ability to provide cutting-edge Internet services. If
you work in the web industry and haven't used AdSense yet, you should
give it a shot. If you're already using it, Calacanis' impressive
results might inspire you to pay closer attention to the output of your
AdSense units, fine-tune their positions and formats, and boost your
earnings to new heights.
